December Literary Road Trip Box: West Virginia

December Literary Road Trip Box Items

Our December 2024 box takes us to West Virginia! Each month, I research the featured state to find a few unique facts to include in the box letter. I learned that West Virginia has the world's first brick-paved road, which I found surprising.

This month's featured book is Joy Callaway's The Grand Design. This historical fiction novel is about Dorothy Draper, who founded America's first interior design firm in the 1920's. Draper famously did the interior design for West Virginia's Greenbrier Resort, as detailed in Callaway's novel. Also included in the December box is an art print of the Greenbrier Resort drawn by Callaway's uncle, artist John Auge. Callaway graciously sent these prints to be included in the December box, along with signed bookplates.

Plot Twist Books in South Charleston is our indie bookstore partner for December. Plot Twist Books opened in March 2023 and their store logo stickers have been included in this month's box. A blog post exploring this fantastic indie will come later in the month, including info about their bookstore bungalow which you can rent!

Mulling spices can be added to wine or cider for a seasonal treat or simmer them in water to add a warm fragrance to your home. Enjoy mulling spices from Smoke Camp Crafts. Smoke Camp Crafts is a farm-based company located in Weston, West Virginia. They focus on promoting biodiversity, native plants, and they love helping fellow growers learn about farming. They also sent their pretty flower bookmarks for subscribers.

Dorothy Draper loved to use floral designs in her interiors and to go with that theme, we have a set of six flower bookplates from She Said It. She Said It is a mother/daughter company from Wisconsin. I love their designs and have included other products from this company in previous boxes.

A book-themed decoration from The Little Ornament Shop. Located in Grapevine, Texas, this family owned business opened in 2022. All of their wood ornaments are handpainted and the company gives a portion of each sale to the conservation group One Tree Planted.

The December 2024 Box sold-out during the subscription phase. Subscribe now to reserve future boxes and lock-in the lowest price.
