Indie Bookstore Spotlight: Poe & Company

Poe & Company is a fabulous indie bookstore located in Milton, Georgia and our indie bookstore partner for our August 2025 Literary Road Trip Box. Specifically, the store is located in a collection of local businesses called the Crabapple Marketplace. Founded by Kate Seng, Poe & Company opened in 2022 and is about to celebrate their third year in business.

The wonderful store name is a tribute to Seng's father's favorite author: Edgar Allan Poe. Her father would read stories, including Poe's "The Tale-Tell Heart" with a dramatic flourish. Seng has a background in public relations and marketing, but her deep love of books led to her opening an indie bookstore. She is also the author of three children's books; "Doodle Noodle," "Mazie's Full Heart," and her latest, "Posie's Full Pockets."

It is no surprise that on her author website Seng mentions that one of her missions is to foster an early love of reading. Although not strictly a children's bookstore, Seng has create a welcoming and warm space for children to discover books at Poe & Company.

The store currently offers various book clubs, including a new thriller book club aptly named "Killer Reads." They have book clubs for romantasy fans, cookbook lovers, fiction readers, and one for middle graders. Beyond the typical children's storytimes and author events, Poe & Company has more unique offerings, such as a murder-mystery dinner event in September and a middle-grade writing workshop with author Robyn Field.

Poe & Company is a local business with strong ties to the community and a drive to make their community a better place. A major upcoming event is a fundraiser for Jesse's House, a charity providing support and housing for girls who have experienced trauma. This fundraiser will feature Georgia authors, including Emily Giffin. It will be held at a local winery and the event is in partnership with Poe & Company.

Their store is absolutely lovely and definitely worth a look, whether in-person or a virtual visit.
