Our June box takes us to the "Natural State,"nick- named for its beautiful mountains, hot springs, and rivers. This is the only place in the United States where diamonds are still being mined and at Diamond State Park, tourists can search for their own diamonds, allowed to keep any that they find! Johnny Cash and John Grisham were born in this state. For June we head to Arkansas!
The featured book is the 1968 classic, True Grit by Arkansan Charles Portis. Set in 1880, this vengeance tale follows young teen Mattie Ross, who hires a U.S. Marshall and Texas Ranger to help her hunt down the man responsible for her father's murder. This gripping story was original a serial for The Saturday Evening Post and has been adapted for both film and television.
Our June indie bookstore partner is Paper Hearts Bookstore. Located in Little Rock, Paper Hearts Bookstore opened in January 2023. We’ve included their logo sticker and store postcard in this month’s box. The postcard has a space specifically for you to send a book recommendation to a friend.
Did you know that the Arkansas state nut is the pecan? Enjoy a bag of cinnamon pecans from Ozark Nut Roasters. This family-owned business opened in 2000 in Little Rock. In 2021, to meet the demand from their popularity, they opened a new factory.
An “I’d Rather Be Reading” glass jar from Arrow & Pine Design Company. Located in Pennsylvania, everything sold is handcrafted by the owner Amber. How will you use your jar? Book money? Paper slips with your TBR titles? Maybe book-themed sticker storage?
To go with the theme of our book, a “Saddle Up” sticker from Fuzzy Loon Designs. Fuzzy Loon Designs is in Waite Park, Minnesota and they’ve turned their hobby into a business, creating unique products since 2016.
