Glaciers, dog sledding, and incredible seafood, the August 2024 Literary Road Trip Box takes us to the 49th state: Alaska. Did you know that to create Alaska's state flag, a contest was held for school children and the winning design was created by thirteen-year-old Benny Benson? This contest was held decades before Alaska was even officially a state.
Our August book is Jennifer E. Smith's The Unsinkable Greta James. This story follows a musician, Greta James, who in the wake of her mother's death has a public breakdown just as her profile is rising. Her father, Conrad, suggests that she accompany him on an Alaskan cruise, a trip that had been planned as an anniversary vacation with his wife. The Unsinkable Greta James is a story about grief and finding yourself amidst major life changes, this beautiful story will resonate with many readers.
The August box launches our new monthly book club. Open exclusively to Literary Road Trip subscribers, we will host a zoom book club at the end of the month Make sure to subscribe to the Literary Road Trip series to be included in the book club discussions.
